Senior Electrical Engineer based in Edinburgh.

Our client is a small, dynamic and innovative company which specialises in the development of direct drive permanent magnet generator technology for the wind, wave and tidal energy sectors and the provision of specialist electro-mechanical engineering services for the power engineering sector.

They are currently working on the next generation of their innovative generator technology and a key requirement exists for an experienced and technically sound Senior Electrical Engineer based in Edinburgh.

The Role

* The Senior Electrical Engineer will be expected to take responsibility for developing the electrical design of our client’s next generation of electrical machines contributing to the technical delivery of technology to 6MW scale and beyond.
* development of innovative rotating electrical generator technology for application in the wind energy sector, with a focus on the offshore market.

* To play a key role in the engineering development of generator technology and helping to ensure it is disseminated into a portfolio of high performance market ready products.

* Undertake electrical design work on novel electrical machines using in-house analytical design tools (with suitable training) and other appropriate techniques to

* Make a direct contribution to the development of IP for the company

* To assist in developing Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) technology
o Electrical and electro-magnetic design of a 1MW prototype
o Development of the electrical and electromagnetic design for application at the 6MW scale
o Working closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical and thermal engineers) to develop the fully integrated and optimal total design for the generators.

* Work closely with engineering sub-contractors, including manufacturing, test, and structural/thermal analysis partners. Ensuring appropriate technical information is shared and understood.
* Design configuration control and change management.
* Develop test plans for the electrical and electromagnetic testing of direct drive permanent magnet generators.
Develop new technology to establish and maintain the company as a global leader in direct drive permanent magnet generators.

The Person

* Degree qualified in Electrical Power Engineering ideally with PhD level knowledge

* Qualifications leading to Chartered Engineer and membership of relevant Institution

* Proven track record, with at least 5 years experience in electrical engineering, working with rotating machines.

* Excellent understanding of advanced electrical machines, power electronics and Electrical Engineering.

* The candidate should have detailed knowledge on the design of generators and motors including synchronous/induction machines for industrial and marine applications to the appropriate standards.

* Design experience of Permanent Magnet Machines or other novel machine topologies

* Use of electromagnetic FEA tools and experience of working with third party engineering firms to deliver successful engineering projects

Salary: £45K to £54K
