Our client is a small, dynamic and innovative company which specialises in the development of direct drive permanent magnet generator technology for the wind, wave and tidal energy sectors and the provision of specialist electro-mechanical engineering services for the power engineering sector. They are currently working on the next generation of their innovative generator technology

A key requirement exists for an experienced and technically sound Electrical Engineer.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to undertake electrical design work on novel electrical machines. The candidate will be required to use the in-house analytical design tools (with suitable training) and other appropriate techniques to produce new designs of machine, often incorporating new technology.

The role will ultimately contribute to the technical delivery of generator technology to 6MW scale and beyond.

* To assist in developing Permanent Magnet Generator technology
a. Electrical and electro-magnetic design of the 1MW prototype
b. Development of electrical and electromagnetic design for application at the 6MW scale
c. Working closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical and thermal engineers) to develop the fully integrated and optimal total design for the generators.

* Deliver documentation and engineering drawings appropriate for the design, manufacture and test of generators
* Assist in the development of new technology to establish and maintain the company as a global leader in direct drive permanent magnet generators.

The Person

* Electrical Engineering Degree (including power engineering)
* Proven track record, with at least 3 years experience in Electrical Engineering, working with rotating machines.
* Good understanding of advanced electrical machines, power electronics and Electrical Engineering.
* The candidate should have knowledge on the design of generators and motors, including experience of Permanent Magnet Machines or other novel machine topologies.
* Use of electromagnetic FEA tools

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Edinburgh

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be expected to take responsibility for developing the mechanical/structural design of electrical machines. In the first instance this will focus on developing rotating electrical generator technology in the wind energy sector, focusing on the offshore market.

The Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will have a key role in the engineering development of technology and helping to ensure it is disseminated into a portfolio of high performance market ready products.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing components, assemblies and machines using a wide range of computer aided engineering tools including Computer Aided Design (CAD) and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

The successful candidate will directly contribute to the development of IP for our client.

His primary duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

Build Specific

Supporting our engineers during the design phase to ensure ease of manufacture / assembly / test.
Procuring of build materials to ensure components arrive on time and to the correct quality level
Visiting suppliers prior to & during manufacturing to check status (Capability / timing / quality).
Carrying out basic goods inwards inspections.
Controlling stock levels to ensure we have adequate materials available to support the build activity
Machine small parts such as assembly aids using manual lathe & milling machines.
Assemble products at our facilities, whilst completing build and test records ready for review by the team.
Arrange for finished products to be packaged ready for dispatch
Carry out necessary maintenance, upgrades or repairs as required

On occasion, visit a customer facility to support the installation and testing of our products.
Support test and validation activities on a range of electromechanical components/systems

General

Maintain a clean and tidy workshop that can be readily shown to Customers
Be responsible for EHS in the workshops
Arrange for re-calibration of selected equipment as required.
Maintain an adequate set of tools for our product development activity

Control Engineer

The role of Control Engineer encompasses all aspects of system  modelling, from requirements capture and interpretation, through to experimental validation using bespoke test equipment and dynamometer facilities. You will work closely with other members of the engineering team in related disciplines on a range of technically-challenging projects, often to tight timescales. Reporting to the Principal Control Engineer, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate proven capability and experience in the control engineering field. Project Manager (Electrical / Electronic Manufacturing)

My client is spin out from university and growing rapidly from last 1 years. They are working on the niche area related to Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing focus on low carbon sectors.

A position has now arisen for an experienced engineering Project Manager. You should have a minimum of either a mechanical or electrical engineering degree and will ideally have a professional project management qualification with experience of running both internal and multi-partner publically funded projects. Additionally, you should have a minimum of five years experience in a similar role, ideally delivering projects involving both small and large companies.

You will have excellent communication skills and have a track record of writing and costing profitable proposals and delivering them on budget and on time, to the satisfaction of senior management and customers. Some element of sales and relationship building is also required.

Any experience of working in start up and managing the team of PhD/ Postdoc will be advantageous. An excellent benefit and remuneration package will be offered to the appropriate individual.
