Supervise the manufacture, assembly and testing of prototype generators by third parties whilst also developing production and manufacturing plans for future production. The role will involve the development of manufacturing and production processes, specifications, schedule of works, supply chain strategy, and quality procedures. Establishing and maintaining Client as a global leader in direct drive permanent magnet generators.

Production Engineering Manager – Essential Experience:

– Proven track record, with experience of manufacturing principles and processes, within an electro-mechanical industry
– Strong focus on continuous improvement
– Planning, assembly and scheduling processes involved in large rotating machines
– Oversight and responsibility for subcontracted manufacturing
– Electrical component manufacture/assembly
– Quality standards and processes
– Working knowledge of CAD tools
– Awareness of project management techniques
– Worldwide and European travel occasionally expected

Desirable:

– Production of electrical windings/coils, Casting production, Steel fabrication, Handling permanent magnets, FMEA, Health and safety and environmental requirements, Design for Assembly and Design for Manufacturing, Experience in both mechanical and electrical engineering

Our client is rapidly growing Engineering R&D company based in South Yorkshire.

Few position has now arisen for a design dept engineer (draughtsman, Engineer, Senior Engineer) to assist in the design of rotating products. You will have a degree in mechanical engineering and ideally experience in toolmaking or similar and drawing office practices together with the design of components and assemblies.

You should be highly competent in CAD modelling, Solidworks, or a similar CAD package.

The position will entail supporting projects through from conceptual design to detailed drawings for manufacture. also include modelling & preparing engineering drawings.

Experience of classic stress analysis techniques and knowledge of FEA analysis is an advantage.

An excellent benefit and remuneration package will be offered to the appropriate individual.

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is high technology company that designs and manufactures revolutionary magnetic transmission systems and advanced electric motors and generators. It has a focus on low carbon sectors and is experiencing strong growth with development contracts with many blue-chip multinational clients.

A position has now arisen for an experienced senior mechanical design engineer to assist in the design of large rotating electrical machines. You will have a degree in mechanical engineering and ideally experience in the design of large electrical machines, however a minimum of five years’ experience in a relevant field such as automotive, or aerospace engineering is acceptable.

Our client is a small, dynamic and innovative company which specialises in the development of direct drive permanent magnet generator technology for the wind, wave and tidal energy sectors and the provision of specialist electro-mechanical engineering services for the power engineering sector. They are currently working on the next generation of their innovative generator technology.

The Role

The purpose of this role is to provide mechanical design engineering for electrical machines and devices in an integrated engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing components, assemblies and machines using a wide range of computer aided engineering tools including Computer Aided Design (CAD) and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA). The role will also involve the analysis of thermal, stress, fluid dynamics, power transfer, vibration and machinery dynamics problems.

The role will ultimately contribute to the technical delivery of the technology to 6MW scale and beyond.

* To assist in developing PMG technology
a. Electrical and electro-magnetic design of the 1MW prototype
b. Development of mechanical and structural design for application at the 6MW scale
c. Working closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical and thermal engineers) to develop the fully integrated and optimal total design for generators.
* Deliver documentation and engineering drawings appropriate for the design, manufacture and test of generators.
* Assist in the development of new technology to establish and maintain the company as a global leader in direct drive permanent magnet generators.

The Person

* Mechanical Engineering degree

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Edinburgh

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be expected to take responsibility for developing the mechanical/structural design of electrical machines. In the first instance this will focus on developing rotating electrical generator technology in the wind energy sector, focusing on the offshore market.

The Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will have a key role in the engineering development of technology and helping to ensure it is disseminated into a portfolio of high performance market ready products.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing components, assemblies and machines using a wide range of computer aided engineering tools including Computer Aided Design (CAD) and structural Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

The successful candidate will directly contribute to the development of IP for our client.

His primary duties will include but are not limited to the following:
1. To assist in developing Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) technology
a. Mechanical and Structural design of a 1MW prototype
b. Development of the electrical and electromagnetic design for application at the 6MW scale
c. Working closely with other engineering disciplines (e.g. mechanical and thermal engineers) to develop the fully integrated and optimal total design for the generators.
2. Work closely with engineering sub-contractors, manufacturing, test, electrical analysis, and thermal analysis partners.
3. Design configuration control and change management.
4. Develop test plans for the mechanical and structural testing of direct drive permanent magnet generators.
5. Develop new technology to establish and maintain the company as a global leader.

The Person

* Mechanical Engineering degree ideally with PhD level knowledge
* Qualifications leading to Chartered Engineer and membership
* Proven track record, with at least 5 years experience in Mechanical Engineering with rotating machines.
* Detailed knowledge on the design of rotating machinery.
* Using mechanical FEA tools to develop components and assemblies
* An understanding of heat transfer and thermal engineering
* Experience of working with third party engineering firms
